The History of Survivor

Survivor's first season, titled "Survivor Borneo" premiered all the way back on May 31, 2000. The idea of the show was that there would be 16 castaways divided up onto two tribes, where they would compete against each other in immunity challenges, and the losers would have to vote one of their tribemates out at Tribal Council. The social dynamic, along with the character types caused the show to immediately become a hit. As the seasons went on, the show was traveling to all different kinds of places. The show did a good job balancing the gameplay with the living conditions, and some seasons showed off the culture of the places they were taking place.

Currently, the show is airing it's 50th season, titled "In the Hands of the Fans." The show has changed a lot in its history. It added immunity idols, which could be used to eliminate any votes cast against you at Tribal Council. However, the show had many changes starting from season 41. The days were shortened from 39 to 26. They permanently stay at Fiji, and no longer explore other places. There was also a huge increase of advantages. The edit of the show focused more on gameplay and sob stories, and started showing less of actual living conditions and even drama. Many fans have called out the host, Jeff Probst, for ruining the show as he became an executive producer around this time.
